My Latest Obsession: Wedge Sneakers

I’ve never really been a sneakerhead. I’ve never camped out for the latest pair of Jordans or built shrines around my fleeting collections of Nikes. I just haven’t ever been that girl, but there is something that has hit the fashion scene that I just cannot deny. A classier sneaker! One that will surely please the fashion gods: wedge sneakers. I believe the first pair I noticed were this nude pink See by Chloe ones on shopbop.

Then Marc Jacobs has models walk the runway in his Marc by Marc wedge sneakers that had the fashion world buzzing.

Next, I can’t look at a blog site without seeing Beyonce or Alicia Keys in a pair of Isabel Marant wedge sneakers.

But you truly know that something has hit mainstream when big (commercial) names like Steve Madden and Nike form their own version of this popular footwear.

So no matter if you are on a budget, or have money to blow, there is a pair of wedge sneakers to appease any appetite. You can go subtle with a pair of the See by Chloe or the suede Steve Madden or you can let your sneakers speak for itself with a pair of the Marc by Marc or the Nike ones. I wouldn’t mind having a pair of each in my closet and I have especially been lusting after the See by Chloe and the Marc by Marc Jacobs pair. Which pair do you imagine most in your closet or do you believe this trend is just a fad and will pass soon?

Every single day we wake up, we have this choice. We have this choice to be either happy or sad or miserable. Sometimes our days are just all bad from the start, and some days things are just peachy. Ultimately, the power belongs to us. We are the controllers of our own destiny! So I am saying to all of you reading this blog at this very moment that you must always choice happiness, even when craziness is right is your face laughing. Don’t give in to bad vibes rather ride the waves of serenity. You must look at life and realize that you will never achieve a “perfect” one and there probably won’t ever be a time when everything is right all at once. There is joy in knowing that you can’t be perfect though, it allows you to take some of that pressure off of yourself! So enjoy life because you only get one! You owe it to yourself to spend as much time as you can smiling, and really enjoying the days, minutes, and seconds you have doing something you really love!

I know a lot of rappers in Chicago. So I am always excited to get pitched music. Especially when it’s not the bubblegum “rap” that regulates the music airwaves. I am also always surprised that most Chicago rappers agree on a common theme: “I’m celibate but the dj keeps f*cking me.” Vulgar? Yes, but only because some talented underground rappers don’t feel the same type of love that some (that shall remain nameless) untalented rappers feel. In Chicago it seems to be about selling the image and not necessarily the music, and that’s why rappers like D.Son create songs like, “Bringin’ Real Back”.

That’s what this song is about. It’s about the talent that is smack dab in your face. Look no further than Chicago’s own streets for lyrical beast willing to go there. Ready to tell the “cool kids” that their opinions are no longer valid or necessary. D.Son flows smoothly without a hook to get his point across. This song gives life to what Chicago’s underground and mainstream market needs.

I really love this song by Anthony Hamilton, “Her Heart”, because not only is it about love, it is about passion. The passion that he has for this woman is so apparent in this song. So since I am not in love yet, I just relate this passion to my passion for living. I’m where I want to be, maybe things aren’t perfect, but I’m here. The fact that I even have an opportunity to live my dreams and have my future in the palms in my hands just makes me feel so grateful. So people never have the courage to take that step.
